Dr Hayden Bellenoit studied South Asian history at Oxford University where he obtained his D.Phil, writing on the interaction of western knowledge and religion with Hinduism and Islam. He recently published a book entitled 'Missionary education and Empire in late colonial India, 1860-1920', which explores these themes in greater depth. Currently, he is starting a new project on eighteenth century India and the transition from Persian learning and literary traditions to English and Anglo-Vernacular education. Dr Bellenoit’s research interests include eighteenth and nineteenth India, the Mughal Empire, Indian Islam, Shi'ism in north India, Hindu-Muslim 'communalism' in historical and contemporary South Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Indian politics.
