Jeffrey R. Macris serves as a Permanent Military Professor in the History Department at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he teaches Middle Eastern history, Ethics, and Western Civilization. His academic specialty is modern Persian Gulf history and the role of the Great Powers in it. A resident of the Persian Gulf for several years, he has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East region, and has worked with local military officers in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Pakistan. He also served as officer-in-charge of an operational U.S. Navy aviation squadron detachment in Bahrain.
