Wadi Rum

At the southeastern edge of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is the spectacular Wadi Rum, a natural valley of colorful rock formations and walls bordering the northern edge of the expansive deserts of the northern Arabian peninsula. Wadi Rum was designated a nature preserve under the management of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in 1998. It was featured prominently in the film version of Lawrence of Arabia, and many places are still identified with sites where T.E. Lawrence was active. Also located in the area are the ruins of a Nabataean temple which included a rock inscribed with North Arabic designating the temple of Allat in dhat Iram.
