Friends of NAPS in the Newport Area,
NAPS primary mission is preparing Midshipman Candidates for success at USNA in academics. The NAPS faculty is 100% civilian and all have been furloughed. We were able to provide the M/Cs with independent study assignments for the next few weeks but require tutors to assist those that are struggling and to answer questions that they do not understand. Specific study areas that require assistance are physics, chemistry and math. All courses are being taught at the high school or college freshman level. If there are individuals who would be willing and able to provide tutoring services to M/Cs at NAPS and who live in the local area please contact the NAPS executive Officer Major Bourquin. Times for assistance would be in the morning (0730 - 1200) and evening (1900 - 2200).

Major Bourquin's contact information is, Major Andy Bourquin @ 841-2693 or bourquin@naps.edu.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

    Major Bourquin, USMC

Good morning Parents and Friends of NAPS. We wanted to let you know what is going on at NAPS in light of the Government shut down. The NAPS Military Staff are maintaining the normal operating procedures as best we can. This morning the Midshipman/Candidates took a Chemistry test that they have been preparing for and they will work the rest of the morning on Academic assignments given by the Faculty before they left. In the afternoon they will be working on Military Skills like Drill, annual training, and physical training. The evening routine of evening chow and study periods will remain the same.

As for NAPS athletic events, if the shut down continues until 1300 on Thursday the Athletic Director will have to cancel all events for this weekend.

Parents weekend is still scheduled to go as planned. So please do not change any of your families plans. If anything does change we will let you know.

    Very Respectfully,
    Major Andy Bourquin
Executive Officer, Naval Academy Preparatory School

The NAPS football team jumped out to an early lead against the Bryant University JV squad in Smithfield, Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon, and never looked back. Diquon Woodhouse took a toss from QB Eric Watson in the first quarter that went for 27 yards and a touchdown that would start an onslaught of scoring by the NAPS football team. Woodhouse scored on runs of 27 and 52 yards, and he did not have the longest touchdown of the day. That accolade would belong to walk-on Tony DeChario who finished the scoring with a 63 yard run in the fourth quarter.
Perhaps the most exciting play of the day came from the defensive side of the ball. NAPS had the lead 14 to 6 in the second quarter with Bryant threatening from the two yard line. A touchdown and a two point conversion would have tied the game, but Justin Norton had other plans. Bryant tried to run a double slant to the left side when Norton read the play beautifully, intercepted the pass, and returned the interception 98 yards for a touchdown to put NAPS on top 20 to 6. That proved to be all NAPS would need for the rest of the day, but the scoring was far from over.
All in all it was a typical NAPS win in team fashion. Besides Woodhouse, DeChario, and Norton, Colton Plante, Chris High, Daryl Bonner, and Watson all scored touchdowns for the NAPS football team on Sunday. This was a good win for NAPS which is now 2 and 2 headed into a showdown with Globe Tech next Sat in Brooklyn, NY. The offense rushed for 543 yards averaging 13.5 yards a play. When those kind of numbers are put forth, you have to look to the play of the offensive line. Dylan Fischer, Shane Artim, Matt Montgomery, Connor Harris, and Robert Lindsey lead the way up front all day.
The Defense played well all day only giving up six points the entire game. Besides Norton, Chris Palmer also had a nice interception late in the game. LeTuan Mack, Reggie Miles, Sean Spencer, and Myles Davenport all turned in good performances for the NAPS defense.
The final score from Smithfield on a beautiful fall afternoon was 61 to 6. NAPS will be back in Newport for the annual Parents Weekend game against Bridgton Academy in two weeks. The game will be played Sat, October 12th on Nimitz Field. Kickoff is slated for 1400, and hopefully we have another beautiful fall day on our hands. Bring the family and come support the team! Baseball will also have a game that day at 12pm against Bunker Hill Community College.
