William P. Tungate, USN Command Master Chief (AW)

Master Chief Tungate is a native of Columbus, Indiana. In January 1982, he enlisted in the United States Navy and completed Basic Training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Florida. Immediately following graduation he went on to Naval Training Center, Orlando, Florida to complete Apprenticeship Training.


His first sea tour was with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 1 Detachment SIX onboard the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19) and designated as an AMH. His fleet assignments include AIMD, NAF Lajes Azores; AIMD, NAS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 43, NAS North Island; AIMD USS BOXER (LHD-4) and Strike Fighter Squadron 137, NAS Lemoore. His shore tours include AIMD at NAS Whidbey Island and Recruit Company and Division Commander at Recruit Training Great Lakes.


Master Chief Tungate most recent sea tour was as the Maintenance Master Chief and Senior Enlisted Advisor with “The World Famous Desert Hawks” at Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 26 Detachment One in Bahrain.


He holds a Bachelor Degree of Science in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University and currently enrolled in the Master of Education program at Northeastern University in Boston. He is a graduate of Senior Enlisted Class 111 and is qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare and Master Training Specialist.


His personal awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Joint Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five Awards) and numerous unit, service and campaign awards.


Master Chief Tungate is married to the former Miss Jymmea Bacoulis of Downers Grove, Illinois. He has two children, Candice and James.
