Wrestling ENS LeRoy Gardner, USN Head Coach


ENS LeRoy Gardner, a Minneapolis, MN native joined the Naval Academy Prep School in 2006. Prior to commissioning, he gained valuable international experience working in Central Asia for nearly a year. He also spent two previous seasons as an assistant wrestling coach with Wartburg College, during the '03-'04 and '04-'05 seasons. Coach Gardner helped the Wartburg Knights to a Team runner-up finish and their 4th National Championship respectively in 2004 and 2005. He also contributed to the development of multiple All-American's and Individual National Championships.

 

He brings an extensive background in all three styles of wrestling (Freestyle, Greco and Collegiate). During his athletic career at Wartburg College he was a 3-time NCAA Division III All-American finishing 6th, 3rd and culminating with a National Championship in 2003. Also during his time there he was a Fila Jr. World Team Member represented the USA finishing 8th at Greco Roman World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (2001) and finishing 5th at the 2002 Sr. World Team Trials in Greco Roman. He is still actively competing hoping to represent his new command upon the All-Navy Wrestling Team at 120kgs.

 

Coach Gardner earned his B.A in Psychology from Wartburg College in 2003.
