Opener
Navy Sinks Virginia, 12-3
In Hockey Season Opener
BOWIE, MD -- Annapolis native Chris Schnappinger scored
two goals and assisted on two others as the Navy ice hockey team
opened its 2004-2005 season with a dominating 12-3 victory over
Virginia Friday night at Bowie Ice Rink.
The Midshipmen will next face the University of Maryland
Terrapins Saturday night (Sept. 25) at 8:30 p.m., also at Bowie
Ice Rink.
In addition to Schnappinger, who was
Navy's leading scorer last season as a freshman, senior John
Naughton also contributed a pair of goals. Seniors John Bogdan,
Jeff Storer, and Keith McGilvray, junior Bill Knips, sophomores
Jeff Dubinsky and Patrick Sullivan, and plebes Nick Schwob and
Eric Smitley each had single tallies for the Mids.
Six different Midshipmen --
Schnappinger, Schwob, Sullivan, Jeff Fallat, Kevin Krmpotich,
and Matty Thomas -- recorded two assists apiece.
Junior goaltender Ryan Dobie had 12
saves in two periods of work for Navy, and senior Matthew
Collinsworth stopped all three shots he faced in the third
period.
