ECHA All Stars Sparkle in Debut ANNAPOLIS — The inaugural ECHA All Star Game, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy at historic Dahlgren Hall, was a high-spirited, entertaining game, with the Blue squad defeating the Red by the score of 9-6. The Red team, which had trailed by three goals in the first period, clawed their way back into the game and tied it at five at the 12:01 mark of the second period. However, on the ensuing shift, forward Tony Attanucci (West Virginia; Mars, Pa.) took a great feed from defenseman Fredrik Bergsten (Towson; Hammarö, Sweden) and stuffed it past goaltender Jason Mardinly (West Chester, Media, Pa.). That goal diffused the Red team’s comeback as the Blue team never trailed at any juncture in the contest. The first goal scored in ECHA All Star Game history was credited to Troy Mansilla (Pennsauken, N.J.) of Towson. Mansilla deftly redirected a shot from Navy defenseman Alex Sandroni (Granger, Ind.) which snuck past Drexel netminder Alex Gredysa (Southampton, N.Y.). The Blue team, the designated home team, was comprised of players from Lehigh, Navy, Towson, and West Virginia. The Red team featured players from league playoff champion Drexel, Rutgers, Scranton, Villanova, and West Chester. Pacing the Blue team was Mansilla, who led all scorers with four points (1g, 3a), and Mike Liu (West Virginia; Parsippany, N.J.) who tallied a playmaker (three assists). Jay Alspach (Navy; Milton, Vt.), Bergsten, and captain Sam Kunst (Navy; St. Louis, Mo.) each contributed a goal and two assists. Scranton forward Harry Lawall (Newtown, Pa.) was the high scorer for the Red team (1g, 2a). West Chester forward Jim Gibson (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in a pair of goals. Drexel forward Derek Nash (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) was the designated captain of the Red team. Tonight represents the “Last Call for Dahlgren Hall” as Navy will be moving into a new facility next season. ECHA commissioner Marshall Stevenson announced after the game that Ice Line, the home arena for West Chester, will serve as the host of next year’s ECHA All Star Game.
