NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (Saturday, October 7, 2006) -- Navy's ice hockey team got goals from seven different players en route to a lopsided 7-1 rout of Rutgers Saturday night in an Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (ECHA) contest at the Princeton Sports Center in New Brunswick, NJ.

With the win, the Midshipmen improved to 3-0 so far this season and 2-0 in the ECHA, while the Scarlet Knights fell to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the ECHA.  Navy is in action again tomorrow (Sunday) when they face Scranton in an ECHA game to be played at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY.

Navy got on the scoreboard early when senior defenseman Alex Sandroni fired a shot from the left point that found the back of the net just 21 seconds into the first period.  The Midshipmen stretched their lead to 4-0 over the next 15 minutes thanks to goals from senior Kevin Krmpotich at 3:17, freshman Nick Hinkley at 9:52, and sophomore Nolan Anliker shorthanded at 15:21.

Rutgers picked up its only goal of the game on the power play at 17:54 of the first period, but before the period ended the Mids increased their lead to 5-1 thanks to a goal from junior Brian Gleason at the 18:17 mark.  In one of the prettiest Navy goals in recent memory, sophomore Jeff Martin fed the puck to Krmpotich, who then slid the puck to Gleason, who fired it past Scarlet Knights netminder Adam Huff for his first tally of the young season.

Sophomore Jon Westerman scored a power play goal at the 6:00 mark of the second stanza to put Navy ahead 6-1, and sophomore Charlie Daniel closed out the scoring with a beautiful wrist shot into the upper corner of the net at 11:59 of the third period.

Freshman goaltender Eric Anderson recorded 14 saves for the Midshipmen, while Huff had 45 saves for the Scarlet Knights.
