COLLEGE PARK, MD (Saturday, January 20, 2007) –  Stony Brook scored three
consecutive goals late in the third period to break open a close game and
went on to defeat Navy’s ice hockey team, 7-2, Saturday night at the Herbert
Wells Ice Rink in College Park, Maryland.

With the disappointing loss, the Midshipmen fell to 13-7-1 overall this
season, while Stony Brook’s Division II Sea Wolves improved to 23-2-0 with
the upset victory.

Stony Brook got on the scoreboard first Saturday night when junior
defenseman Ben Breiterman registered a power play goal with a tip of a slap
shot from the point at 6:23.

Navy tied the score at 1-1 midway through the opening period when junior
Nick Schwob scored an even strength tally at 10:35, assists going to seniors
Jay Alspach and Joe Liles.

Stony Brook regained its one goal advantage late in the first period, at the
18:24 mark, when Dan Capizzuto knocked a rebound past Navy netminder Jeremy
Estevez.

The Sea Wolves extended their lead to 3-1 early in the second stanza when
sophomore forward Angelo Serse scored an even strength breakaway goal at
5:12.

Stony Brook stretched its advantage to 4-1 in the third period when Serse
recorded the Sea Wolves’ third power play tally of the night, at the 6:50
mark, when he tipped home a shot from Danny Kentoffio.

Navy trimmed the Stony Brook lead to 4-2 a short time later when Schwob
scored his second goal of the night, and his 17th of the season, when he
banged home the rebound of his own shot at 11:33.  Defensemen Alex Sandroni
and Donnie Horner picked up the assists.

But the Sea Wolves officially put the game out of reach with three
consecutive, unanswered goals over the game’s final six minutes: an even
strength tally from Mike Mitchell at 14:10, a power play goal -- their
fourth of the night -- from Mark Pane at 15:20, and an even strength tally
by Maurico Torres at 17:52.

Estevez, Navy’s freshman goaltender who was making his second start of the
season, finished the night with 36 saves.  His Stony Brook counterpart,
freshman Derek Stevens, recorded 34 saves, as the Sea Wolves outshot the
Mids, 43-36.

The Midshipmen were 1-for-12 on the power play, while the Sea Wolves were
4-for-9.

Navy is in action again Sunday (January 21) when the Mids face Eastern
Collegiate Hockey Association rival Towson at 3:15 p.m., again at the Wells
Ice Rink in College Park.
