ASTON, PA (Sunday, October 22, 2006) -- Navy's ice hockey team scored four
unanswered first period goals and went on to defeat Villanova, 7-2, in an
Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (ECHA) game Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Midshipmen improved to 5-1-0-1 overall and 4-0-0-1 in
the ECHA.  The Ice Cats fell to 0-4-0-0 in the ECHA.

Navy broke on top early with a goal from Nick Hinkley at 7:36, assisted by
Brian Gleason and Alex Sandroni. The Mids increased their lead to 2-0 two
minutes later when Kevin Krmpotich connected at 9:32, assissts going to Jay
Alspach and Alex Wallis.

The Mids stretched their lead to 3-0 when Donnie Horner fired in a shot from
the blue line at 13:49, assisted by Krmpotich and Alspach.  Navy made it 4-0
when Matt Gross rifled in a shot from the slot at the 15:16 mark, the lone
assist going to Hinkley.

Villanova trimmed Navy's lead to 4-2 with a pair of second period goals at
1:01 (shorthanded) and 12:17 (on the power play).  But the Mids bounced back
before the period ended on two late goals from Alspach at 14:05 on the power
play assisted by Krmpotich and Drew Stoner, and Nick Schwob at 14:53
assisted by Krmpotich.

The Mids closed out the scoring in the third period with a Nolan Anliker
power play tally, assists going to Jeff Martin and Patrick Sullivan.

Navy netminder Sean Ublacker finished with 14 saves, while his Villanova
counterpart, James Carrig, recorded 42 saves, as the Mids outshot the Ice
Cats, 49-16.

Navy is idle until it visits Towson this Friday night at Mount Pleasant Ice
Rink in Baltimore. The opening face-off is set for 8:30 p.m.
