WEST CHESTER, PA (Saturday, October 14, 2006) - Navy's ice hockey team
battled back from deficits of 4-1 and 6-4 to tie West Chester 6-6, but the
Midshipmen eventually lost to the Golden Rams 7-6 in sudden death overtime
Saturday at the Ice Line Arena in West Chester, PA.

With the loss, Navy dropped to 4-0-0-1 on the season and 2-0-0-1 in the
Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (ECHA).

The Midshipmen fell behind 2-0 in the first period before Jay Alspach scored
at 16:34, assisted by Patrick Sullivan and Nolan Anliker.  But West Chester
scored twice more before the period ended to take a 4-1 advantage after the
first period.

The Mids battled back in the second stanza, scoring a pair of goals in the
first 4 1/2 minutes, the first from Anliker at 2:42 and the second from Nick
Schwob at 4:34.  The Golden Rams interrupted the Navy rally with a pair of
goals sandwiched around a beautiful shorthanded tally from Kevin Krmpotich
at 13:02.

Down 6-4 entering the third period, The Mids pulled within 6-5 on a Jimmy
Doherty goal at 8:48, then tied the contest at 6-6 on a goal from Joe Liles
with just 53 seconds left in regulation time. But the Golden Rams spoiled
the thrilling comeback on a goal by Jim Gehring at the 3:54 mark of the
five-minute sudden death overtime session.

Navy netminder Eric Anderson played brilliantly, finishing with 34 saves,
while his counterpart in the West Chester nets recorded 39 saves, as the
Mids outshot the Rams, 45-41.

Navy is an action again tomorrow when the Mids visit Penn State University
at 12 noon.
