Monday (4 Feb).  Following breakfast in King Hall, conference participants break into small groups to discuss previously provided case studies that highlight the conference theme of “Leadership Beyond Barriers.”

Morning Panels.  The morning activities continue with a moderated panel discussion and Q&A of invited student conference participants.  The purpose of this panel discussion is to gain an initial understanding of participant perspectives on the conference theme and important questions that should be considered.  A second moderated panel follows the student panel and is comprised of leaders and professionals from military, business, government, and academia.  The purpose of this panel is to provide experienced leader and expert perspectives on both the theme and student panel perspectives.  Back-to-back panels afford a unique opportunity for interaction and feedback that will encourage participation and broaden the base of discussion for the entire conference.

Commandant Remarks/Forrestal Lecture Reception.  Prepared remarks by the Commandant will occur in Memorial Hall preceding a student dinner reception in Smoke Hall and a Superintendent-hosted dinner reception for the Forrestal Lecture Speaker at Buchanan House.  Conference staff, faculty advisors, and invited Naval Academy and USNA Foundation members attend the Buchanan House reception.  This reception is attended by conference sponsors (Class of 1938 and Mitch and Linda Hart) and provides an opportunity to personally recognize the Keynote Speaker.

Evening Forrestal Lecture.  A Brigade Forrestal Lecture will occur in Alumni Hall on Monday evening.  The Forrestal Lecturer addresses the conference theme of “Leadership Beyond Barriers” from his broad experience and expertise building and improving organizations around the world.  The presentation and follow-on Q&A provide an opportunity for conference participants and the Brigade of Midshipmen to hear the words of a respected, well-known leader.

Tuesday (5 Feb).  Following breakfast in King Hall, conference participants break into small groups to discuss the Keynote Speaker and reflect on the core conference questions.

Morning Guest Speaker.  The morning guest speaker is a recognized figure from academia, business, government, or media with expertise on issues of organizational diversity and leadership.   This session is designed as an interactive speech/presentation that provides an opportunity for conference participant engagement, discussion, and debate with the guest speaker.

Lunch Guest Speaker.  The lunch guest speaker is a recognized expert or public figure from business, athletics or the media who addresses the conference on lessons, challenges, and issues of diversity and leadership in at the organizational level.

Afternoon Panel Discussion.  The afternoon panel discussion focuses on current issues and challenges relevant to social, cultural and religious diversity and leadership in organizations and in society.  Following the afternoon panel, small group moderators and faculty advisors assist in the compilation of small group discussion notes into a draft conference report.

Wednesday (6 Feb):   Following breakfast and a wrap-up small group session, the conference staff and midshipmen/cadet/student panelists present draft findings of the conference group discussions and a review of conference highlights.  The closing guest speaker personalizes the conference theme and highlights the responsibilities of leadership to seek and develop followers from all backgrounds, in the process summarizing and reinforcing topics discussed throughout the conference.  Following the closing guest speaker, conference sponsors (USNA Class of 1938, Mitch and Linda Hart) provide additional remarks and commentary to close the USNA Leadership Conference 2008.  Following lunch, conference participants depart USNA.
