Captain Mark
H. Adamshick was born in Colonia, New Jersey in 1959.
He attended Colonia Senior High School and entered the
United States Naval Academy in 1977. He graduated with
merit (cum laude) earning a Bachelor of Science degree
and was commissioned an Ensign in May 1981.
Following
graduation, Captain Adamshick attended flight school in
Pensacola, Florida and was designated a Naval Flight
Officer (NFO) in November 1982. He reported to FIGHTER
SQUADRON 101 and was assigned to FIGHTER SQUADRON 74
after completing the Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS).
He flew combat missions during operations against Libya
and participated in the intercept and escort of the
Egyptian airliner carrying the "Achille Lauro"
hijackers. After his first squadron tour, Captain
Adamshick was assigned as an instructor with FIGHTER
SQUADRON 101 serving concurrently as the Tactical
Development and Evaluation (TAC D&E) Officer for FITWING
ONE. During this tour, Captain Adamshick was selected
to attend the United States Naval Test Pilot School in
Patuxent River, Maryland and graduated with Class 93 in
July 1988. Following graduation, he served at the
Strike Aircraft Test Directorate (SATD), NAS Patuxent
River as the F-14 air-to-ground integration officer and
participated in the Technical Evaluation (TECHEVAL) of
the F-14D Tomcat.
In
December 1990, Captain Adamshick was assigned to FIGHTER
SQUADRON 74 and served as Operations and Maintenance
Department Head embarking in USS SARATOGA CV-60. He
flew 31 combat missions during operations Desert Shield
and Desert Storm. During this tour, he was selected as
the FITWING ONE Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) of the
year and the COMNAVAIRLANT Naval Flight Officer (NFO) of
the year.
From
June 1993 to July 1994, he served as Deputy Special
Assistant for Flag Officer Management and Distribution
(PERS-00F1) on the staff of the Chief of Naval Personnel
(BUPERS). He was awarded a Navy Political-Military
Graduate Education scholarship and attended the John F.
Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University
graduating with a Master’s Degree in Public
Administration in May 1995. Captain Adamshick served at
the Pentagon from June 1995 until June 1997 on the staff
of the Chief of Naval Operations assisting the Deputy
for Plans, Policy and Operations (N3/N5) as the Air
Warfare Policy Officer.
Captain
Adamshick reported as the Executive Officer of FIGHTER
SQUADRON 213 in October 1997. He assumed command of
this Navy F-14D Tomcat squadron in April 1999 during a
combat deployment in USS CARL VINSON CVN-70 to the
Arabian Gulf participating in Operation Desert Fox.
After
completing his command tour in September 2000, Captain
Adamshick reported to the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT as the
Operations Officer. During this tour, he was selected
for a second command in grade and reported to the Flying
Eagles of VFA-122 at NAS Lemoore, California in
September 2001. After transition training in the F/A-18
E/F “Super Hornet”, Captain Adamshick assumed command of
the Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) in January 2002.
After
receiving his Ph.D. in Policy Studies from the
University of Maryland, School of Public Policy in May
2007, Captain Adamshick joined the faculty at the United
States Naval Academy as a military professor of
leadership and ethics.
He is
entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal with four
gold stars, the Air Medal with gold numeral 3 and bronze
star, the Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars
and combat distinguishing device (V for valor), the Navy
Achievement Medal with one gold star and various other
campaign and unit awards. Captain Adamshick has
accumulated over 4,000 flight hours in over 20 different
aircraft and logged 1000 carrier arrested landings.
Captain
Adamshick and his wife Stephanie reside in Severna Park,
Maryland with their 3 children, Gabrielle (17), Henry
(15), and Joseph (12).
