Professor of Psychology: United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD. December 1998 to present. 

Teach a range of undergraduate psychology courses to Naval Academy Midshipmen in the Department of Leadership, Ethics and Law. Developed curriculum and custom text for a core course in Leadership and Human Behavior. Serve on the Faculty Senate Assessment Committee and the Naval Academy Research Council. Supervise military faculty members in the psychology section and provide training to leadership instructors in the department's leadership section. Assistant to Associate Professor with tenure, 2003, Full Professor, 2009.

Taught upper division undergraduate courses for the department of Social Sciences, Chaminade University.  Courses included History and Systems of Psychology, The Psychology of Small Groups, and Abnormal Psychology.

 

 

 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Profile

Staff Psychologist: Yamhill County Youth and Family Services, McMinnville, OR.  November 1994 to August 1998. 

Provided comprehensive psychological evaluations for children and adolescents to address cognitive, personality, educational and diagnostic referral questions. Conducted brief cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy with adolescents and adults. Supervised psychology practicum students and offered consultation and education to county mental health staff. 

Division Head‑Psychology:  Naval Medical Clinic, Pearl Harbor, HI.  December 1992 to August 1994.

Responsible for the direction and supervision of psychology services for a busy outpatient mental health clinic.  In addition to the duties performed as a Psychology Resident (see below), duties included:  Supervision of two unlicensed psychology residents, organizational consultation, representation and advocacy of psychology within the Navy medical community, and direction of the department’s inservice and education outreach programs. 

Psychology Resident:  Naval Medical Clinic, Pearl Harbor, HI.  December 1991 to December 1992.

Responsible for providing services in a busy outpatient mental health clinic.  Duties included:  Maintenance of a large case load, performance of emergency, competency and routine psychological evaluations, expert testimony in military legal proceedings, and co‑chairmanship of the spouse abuse case review committee.  Offered frequent workshops and presentations. 

Psychology Intern:  National Naval Medical Center ‑‑ Bethesda, Bethesda, MD.  November 1990 to November 1991. 

APA approved clinical psychology internship with major rotations in assessment, behavior medicine, outpatient services and inpatient services. Specialty training in post‑traumatic stress disorder and crisis management. Frequent case presentations and lectures to psychology/psychiatry staff, medical and dental residents, and educational patient groups. 

Psychology Intern (part‑time):  Camarillo State Hospital, Camarillo CA.  July 1989 to July 1990. 

Provided therapy and psychological assessments for adults in a large chronic care facility.

Psychology Clerk:  Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA.  July 1988 to July 1989. 

Served as psychology clerk in one of the largest medical centers in the country.  Provided psychometric evaluations of clients with acute psychological disorders.  Assessment in the areas of achievement, cognitive functioning, personality and neuropsychology.

President of Society for Military Psychology (Division 19). (served as president-elect in 2003-2004 and  past-president 2005-2006). Served as Member-at-large 2002-2003.

Appointed Convention Program Chairperson for a two-year term. Organized and oversaw the submission and review process for divisional programming at the annual national convention.

Oregon Board of Bar Examiners: Portland, Oregon. February 1997 to December 1998.

Appointed by Oregon Supreme Court as public member of the Board of Bar Examiners. Administer Bar Exam and participated in evaluation of applicants to the state Bar. Conducted hearings to determine character and fitness of questionable Bar applicants. 

Oregon Board of Psychologist Examiners: Portland, Oregon, April 1997 to December 1998. 

Appointed by the BPE to serve as an examiner for state oral licensing examinations.
