LT Adam Paul Laxalt was born into a large Catholic family in Reno, Nevada on 31 August 1978. He was raised by a single mother, Michelle, in Alexandria, Virginia and has two younger sisters, Tori and Tessa, who are both in High School.
He graduated from Georgetown University Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Government in 2001. He held numerous jobs before his Naval career began which included working for the Honorable John Warner, (R-VA), a waiter job, a cattle hand, and one season working on the ski slopes of Colorado.
From 2002-2005 he earned his Juris Doctrate from Georgetown University Law Center. He worked throughout school which included a summer clerkship at the Air Force General Counsel and a year as Special Assistant to then UnderSecretary John R. Bolton in the Office of the UnderSecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security.
After his first year of law school, he applied for and was selected to receive a commission in the United States Navy, Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve on 14 June 2004. He attended Officer Indoctrination School and NJS in the fall of 2005. He served at NLSO-MIDLANT through September 2007. There he did Legal Assistance, an IA in Iraq, and Defense. Next, he was stationed at U.S. Region Legal Service Office Europe and Southwest Asia, Detachment Sigonella until June 2009. There he was both a trial counsel and an SJA. He is now an Associate Professor at the United States Naval Academy.
