CAPT Petrillo originally hails from Wilkes-Barre, PA He received his BA from King's College, his MA from Western Carolina University, and his Ph.D. from St. John's University. He is board certified in Clinical Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychologists. He was commissioned a LT in the Navy in 1987 and completed an internship at the National Naval Medical Center (NNMC), Bethesda. His first duty assignment was a staff psychologist at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL where he split his time between the Naval Hospital and the Branch Medical Clinic, Mayport. His next assignment was to the Naval Hospital, Rota, Spain. He initially served as the staff psychologist and then served as the department head of the Alcohol Rehabilitation Department. He also served on the Special Psychiatric Rapid Intervention Team. Next, he was assigned to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Headquarters. While at NCIS he developed an active Employee Assistance Program, expanded the Critical Incident Debriefing Team, and created the curriculum for the training of psychiatry residents and psychology interns from NNMC. He also consulted with ATAC and DONCAF in the identification of FCI threats. For his next assignment, he was the director of the Alcohol Treatment Facility at Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune. In August 2001, he transferred to the Marine Security Guard Battalion where he was responsible for the psychological evaluation of over 500 students a year. Additionally, he was the sole health care point of contact for over 1100 Marines posted worldwide at US embassies and consulates. He served as the Director, Midshipman Development Center at the USNA in which he oversaw the expansion of clinical services and personnel. He transferred to the LEL department in Aug 07. He taught Abnormal Psychology and Physiological Psychology. The latter course was a first at the Naval Academy. He also serves as the Specialty Leader (SL) and Consultant to the Navy Surgeon General for clinical psychology. His duties as SL include collaborating with the detailer on assignments for all Navy clinical psychologists, advising clinical psychologists on career matters, identifying clinical psychologists for IA assignments in support of the GWOT, and serving as the key liaison for medical recruiting of clinical psychology applicants. He is married to the former Emilia Kessler and has three children; Martin, Emi, and Ethan.
