Lieutenant Matthew Walters is a 2002 Graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. After graduation, LT Walters was TAD to the Naval Academy as a sailing instructor and Physics Department research assistant. In December 2002, he reported to Pensacola, FL for flight school. Designated a Naval Flight Officer in April 2004, Lieutenant Walters was ultimately assigned to Patrol Squadron Four at MCB Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
LT Walters reported to the World Famous "Skinny Dragons" of VP-4 in February 2005 while the squadron was deployed to 5th and 7th Fleets. There he flew combat missions over Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Arabian Gulf in support of the Global War on Terror. While at Patrol Squadron Four, LT Walters served as Tactical Publication Librarian, Electrician Shop Branch Officer, Hosting Officer, Assistant Administration Department Head, and Professional Development Officer. He completed his second deployment to 7th Fleet in June 2007, flying missions in support of the Global War on Terror in that theater. He left the squadron in February 2008 with nearly 1000 flight hours, primarily in the P-3C Orion, and designations as a Tactical Coordinator (TACCO), Patrol Plane Mission Commander and Patrol Plane Instructor TACCO.
Lieutenant Walters' personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
