The award is presented to a junior military faculty member in odd years and to a junior civilian faculty member in even years.

Two honorable mention recipients were selected for the Apgar Award. They are Assistant Professor Brendan Doherty (Political Science), and Assistant Professor Joshua Radice (Mechanical Engineering).

Civilian Faculty Service Excellence Award:

Professor Anne Marie Drew, of the English Department, received the 2012 Civilian Faculty Service Excellence Award. This award is presented annually to the civilian faculty member at the Naval Academy who has exhibited the highest degree of continued service through involvement in administrative and Brigade support activities which advance and enhance the mission of the Naval Academy.

Two honorable mention recipients were also selected. They are Professor Elsa Bennett (Languages & Cultures) and Professor Jeff Fitzgerald (Chemistry).
