SECURITY EXERCISE AT NAVAL ACADEMY COMPLEX
| #028-12 | Mar 12, 2012 |
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Exercise Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield 2012 will be conducted on naval bases and other installations throughout the continental United States, including the Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis (NSAA), from Mar. 19-24, 2012. This is a regularly-scheduled Navy-wide exercise and not in response to any specific threat. During this exercise, Annapolis residents and visitors will notice activity that may look like a real-life emergency.
While measures will be taken to minimize disruptions to normal Naval Academy and Naval Support Activity Annapolis operations, visitors to the Naval Academy during this year’s exercise should anticipate increased traffic and delays near the entrances to the Naval Academy, as well as additional security screening measures, such as bag checks and possible vehicle inspections. Area residents may also see and hear increased Navy security activity associated with the exercise.
We encourage commuters to consider alternate routes or add additional time to their commutes to avoid increased traffic and possible delays.
Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield 2012 is the largest force protection/anti-terrorism exercise conducted on all naval bases and installations in the continental United States. A series of mock drills will be staged to resemble real-life emergencies throughout the region. It was developed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy’s security personnel.
It is Navy policy not to discuss the specifics of our security measures, so the details of this exercise will not be released.
The Naval Academy Visitor Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday, March 22-23. For more information, contact the USNA Public Affairs Office at 410-293-1520 or 2292.
