NAVAL ACADEMY HOSTS 2011 SPECIAL OLYMPICS

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The United States Naval Academy's Midshipmen Action Group (MAG) will host the annual Anne Arundel County Special Olympics Aquatics/ Track & Field Events on April 9th and 10th. More than a hundred athletes will be competing in swimming events on the 9th and track & field events on the 10th.

Registration for volunteers is between 8:30-9:30 a.m., April 9th in McDonough Hall, followed by the opening ceremonies and competition with awards and closing ceremonies at 3 p.m. April 10th registration is between 8-9 a.m. on Ingram Field followed by opening ceremonies and competition with awards and closing ceremonies at 3 p.m. Both days also include a lunch break between 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

MAG was established in 1992 as a community relations program to be organized and run by the Brigade of Midshipmen, faculty and staff, and offers a variety of educational, environmental and social service volunteer projects coordinated with community partners from the Annapolis, Baltimore and D.C. areas. MAG aims to provide reliable, diligent, and enthusiastic volunteers willing to offer their time, talent, energy and endeavors to better prepare midshipmen for future service by encouraging peer leadership, teamwork, character development, morale, selflessness and good will towards others.
