ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Dr. Bruce J. Bukowski was recently named Director of the Center for Academic Excellence at the U.S. Naval Academy. The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is funded by the Naval Academy class of 1963 and provides the highest quality academic support programs for all midshipmen seeking to improve their academic performance at the academy.

Bukowski served as the Director of Academy Advising and Exploration Center at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater since 2002 and prior to that served as a tenured faculty member in the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching Department since 1986. He holds a doctorate of philosophy in educational administration, a Master of Science degree in physical education, and a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education/school health education.

“We're thrilled to have Dr. Bukowski join us at the academy and lead our Class of 1963 Center for Academic Excellence,” said Naval Academy Academic Dean and Provost Dr. Andrew Phillips. “Dr. Bukowski has significant experience in developing and leading a nationally recognized and award winning academic center in Wisconsin, and he has a background and leadership style that is a great ‘fit’ for our institution.”

The academy's CAE offers midshipmen professional tutoring, peer-led organized group study sessions, learning skills programs and supplemental instruction workshops with faculty and staff members in all subject areas.

USNA

Founded in 1845, the U.S. Naval Academy today is a prestigious four-year service academy that prepares midshipmen morally, mentally and physically to be professional officers in the naval service. More than 4,400 men and women representing every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries make up the student body, known as the Brigade of Midshipmen. Midshipmen learn from military and civilian instructors and participate in intercollegiate varsity sports and extracurricular activities. They also study subjects like small arms, drill, seamanship and navigation, tactics, naval engineering and weapons, leadership, ethics and military law. Upon graduation, midshipmen earn a tax-payer funded Bachelor of Science degree in a choice of 23 different subject majors and go on to serve at least five years of exciting and rewarding service as commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps.
