WOMEN & MINORITIES:
The Class of 2016 includes 295 women (24 percent) and a total of 418 minority midshipmen (34 percent). (The Class of 2015 was comprised of 19 percent women and 33 percent minority midshipmen.)
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
The Class of 2016 includes 17 international students from 13 countries: Bangladesh (1), Bulgaria (2), Costa Rica (2), El Salvador (1), Gabon (2), Guyana (1), Kazakhstan (1), Korea (1), Malaysia (1), Peru (2), Philippines (1), Singapore (1), and Thailand (1).
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Twenty-nine percent (354) of the Class of 2016 are from college and post high school preparatory programs, which include:
- 222 from Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, R.I.
- 45 from the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation Program (30 from preparatory schools and 17 from other colleges under foundation sponsorship).
- 87 additional students have completed at least six months of study at a college or university.
