The internationally-acclaimed U.S. Naval Academy Women’s Glee Club will take their Veteran’s Day Weekend Tour to New Orleans to perform Sunday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Street, New Orleans, 70130. This concert is open to the public and admission is free.
The Naval Academy Women’s Glee Club, under the direction of Cindy Bauchspies regularly travels around the country representing the Naval Academy and the naval service. The Glee Club has received national acclaim for public appearances in Phoenix; Chicago; and most recently, a national television broadcast of the Veteran’s Day Ceremony in New York City. A 10-day visit to Brazil in 2010 garnered international acclaim from ambassadors and state department officials.
“We are excited about the opportunity to perform at Trinity Episcopal Church on Veteran’s Day and it will be a great way to honor those who have served and are serving our country,” said Bauchspies. “All of the women in the Glee Club are preparing to serve their country as officers in the Navy or Marine Corps upon graduation and commissioning from the Academy.”
In addition to the concert at Trinity Episcopal, the Women’s Glee Club will be featured at a concert in the Louisiana Pavilion at the National World War II Museum at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Nov. 10. The Glee Club will visit Mt. Carmel Academy and St. Mary’s Dominican High School while in the Crescent City. The Glee Club will also provide the music for the 9 a.m. Veteran’s Day Mass Sunday Nov. 11, at the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans.
Founded in 1845, the U.S. Naval Academy today is a prestigious four-year service academy that prepares midshipmen morally, mentally and physically to be professional officers in the naval service. More than 4,400 men and women representing every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries make up the student body, known as the Brigade of Midshipmen. Midshipmen learn from military and civilian instructors and participate in intercollegiate varsity sports and extracurricular activities. They also study subjects like small arms, drill, seamanship and navigation, tactics, naval engineering and weapons, leadership, ethics and military law. Upon graduation, midshipmen earn a federally funded Bachelor of Science degree in a choice of 23 different subject majors and go on to serve at least five years of exciting and rewarding service as commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps.
