NAVAL ACADEMY CLASS OF 2012 RECEIVES SERVICE ASSIGNMENTS

ANNAPOLIS - Naval Academy midshipmen first class (seniors) in the Class of 2012 were informed of their specific Navy and Marine Corps career assignments, Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011. The midshipmen who will commission as surface warfare officers will receive their ship assignments Feb. 2, 2012. Midshipmen assigned to other communities are in the process of receiving their orders for follow-on training dates.

Assignments are based on specific requirements provided to us by Department of the Navy leadership. Although personal desires are strongly considered, community assignments are ultimately based on requirements set forth by the Navy and Marine Corps.

The Naval Academy endeavors to match personal preferences with aptitude/ability, placing midshipmen in the community best suited to their strengths so as to set them up for successful careers of naval service.

95% of the Class were assigned to their first or second choice career assignment.
