USNA Not Open to Public For 4th of July Fireworks Viewing
Posted on: July 02, 2013 12:00 EDT by Naval Academy Public Affairs
Due to the large crowds and congestion in the Annapolis Area tied to the Independence Day parade and evening fireworks, vehicle access to USNA will be restricted to residents, guests of residents, faculty, staff and handicapped personnel with DoD credentials.
Residents with 4th of July guests should request a pass for their guests at firstname.lastname@example.org by 2 p.m. July 3. The passes must be picked up at Pass and ID prior to 3 p.m. If you are unable to get your passes to your visitors, guests can pick them up on the 4th of July at Gate 8.
Gate 1 will close for vehicle traffic at 5 p.m. and will remain closed for the evening. It will reopen as scheduled July 5. Residents, faculty, staff and their guests, will need to use Gate 8 for vehicle access. The Gate 3 pedestrian gate will also close at 5 p.m.
Due to the high level of pedestrian traffic in the area, vehicle movement will be limited on Brownson and Turner Joy Roads. Both roads will close to all but emergency traffic at 8 p.m.
An alternate viewing area is available on the North Severn Complex near the Carr Creek Marina.
