Press Release #: 009-13
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Naval Academy would like to inform visitors of a recent change to the running routes on the Yard and the temporary closure of the pedestrian gate on Prince George Street due to planned renovations.
A portion of the Naval Academy’s outer perimeter running route is now closed due to planned renovations of the Administration Building. The “outer loop” road behind the building between Maryland Avenue and the Chapel closed Jan. 23 and is expected to be closed for 2-3 months.
Informal activities such as running and dog walking are not authorized along Blake Road (in front of the Administration Building, the Chapel and Buchanan House), the Stribling Walk area and along Porter Road. The Naval Academy asks that city residents who enjoy use of the academy respect the ceremonial nature of these areas and plan a walking or running path elsewhere on the Yard. An alternate on-base running route is suggested as a temporary replacement to the traditional outer loop. The approximate distance is 4.41 miles.
Renovations to the Administration building at 121 Blake Rd. began Jan. 23 and are anticipated to be complete in the spring of 2014.
Additionally, the Barry Gate off Prince George Street is now temporarily closed due to the renovation of the multi-purpose gym in Halsey Field House. It is expected to be closed through May 2013.
Visitors to the Naval Academy may continue to enter through Gate 1 (King George St.) and Gate 3 (Maryland Ave.) and will be required to show picture identification. Vehicles without Department of Defense decals are not permitted on the Naval Academy grounds. Handicapped visitors with proper decals are permitted through Gate 1 after a vehicle inspection. All bags are subject to search.
