I-Day Class of 2017 Statistics

CLASS OF 2017 (as of June 26, 2013):

PROJECTED CLASS SIZE:

  • Men: 932
  • Women: 274
  • Total: 1,206 (Includes 18 international students)

APPLICATIONS:

  • Men: 13,716            
  • Women: 3,938
  • Total: 17,654

  • Majority: 11,881
  • Minority…...5,773

(The Class of 2016 inducted 1,212 midshipmen and received 20,601 applications.)

WOMEN & MINORITIES:

The Class of 2017 includes 274 women (23%) and a total of 392 minority midshipmen (33%)

(The Class of 2016 was comprised of 24% women and 34% minority midshipmen.)

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

The Class of 2017 includes 18 international students from:  Bangladesh (1), Bulgaria (1), Cambodia (1), Costa Rica (1), Gabon (1), Georgia (1), Jamaica (1), Jordan (1), Kazakhstan (1), Malaysia (1), Montenegro (1), Nigeria (2), Pakistan (1), Peru (1), Singapore (1), Taiwan (1), and Thailand (1).

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Twenty-nine percent (348) of the Class of 2017 are from college and post high school preparatory programs, which include:

  • 202 from Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, R.I.
  • 49 from the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation Program (30 from preparatory schools and 17 from other colleges under foundation sponsorship)
  • 97 additional students have completed at least six months of study at a college or university

MILITARY BACKGROUND

TOTAL FORMER ENLISTED:

  • Navy: 53
  • Marine Corps: 10
  • Total: 63
