Press Release #: #059-14

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -  A public meeting will be held Wednesday, June 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lowes Annapolis Hotel, 126 West St. regarding the DRAFT Environmental Assessment (EA) for the construction and operation of the proposed Center for Cyber Security Studies and parking garage at the Naval Academy.

The DRAFT EA is available for review at:    http://www.usna.edu/PAO/documents/Draft%20EA%20for%20the%20Naval%20Academy%20Cyber%20Building%20-%20June%202014.pdf. Printed copies are available at the Annapolis Area Library, 1410 West St. Annapolis, Md.

The DRAFT EA incorporates comments and concerns received from the public after the first public meeting held Feb. 5.

The meeting will include displays and materials for review. Navy staff will be present to answer questions.

Vice Admiral Michael H. Miller, superintendent of the academy, will speak about the project at 7:30 p.m.

Those who wish to comment on the project can provide a written statement at the meeting or have a stenographer record your comments there. Comments also can be submitted by mail, phone or email to: USNA Public Affairs Office, 121 Blake Road, Annapolis, Md. 21401; 410-293-1520; pao@usna.edu. Comments must be received or postmarked by July 18.

The proposed building will house the academy’s Center for Cyber Security Studies, a Secure Compartmentalized Information Facility and engineering classrooms.

The preferred location for the building is the current parking lot between Nimitz Library and Rickover Hall on the grounds of the academy. Due to the loss of parking from constructing the building, this project also includes the construction of a two-story parking garage at the Alumni Hall parking lot.
