Naval Academy Modifies Gate 3 Hours
The Naval Academy’s Gate 3 (Maryland Avenue and Hanover Street) will have new hours beginning July 8. The gate will be open for pedestrians only from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., the gate will be closed to vehicle traffic.

The Naval Academy Band will present a Commissioning Week Music Festival featuring the Electric Brigade and the Crabtowne Stompers Wednesday, May 22, from 2-3:45 p.m. on Ingram Field. The festival is free and open to the public.

Naval Academy Announces Commissioning Week Shuttle Bus Schedule, Informational Phone Lines and Graduation Broadcast Information
For the convenience of family, friends and visitors during the traditional Herndon Climb, May 20, and Commissioning Week, May 20-24, the Naval Academy will provide free, daily shuttle buses; a dedicated phone number for schedule of events information; weather-related updates; as well as television broadcast and webcasting of the graduation and commissioning ceremony.

Naval Academy Midshipman Receives Truman Scholarship
U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2014 Midshipman 2nd Class (junior) Clifton E. Luber, III, of Camdenton, Mo., was recently selected as a 2013 Truman Scholar. The Truman Foundation announced today that 62 students from 54 U.S. colleges and universities were selected.

Naval Academy Spring Formal Dress Parades
The Naval Academy Brigade of Midshipmen will present formal dress parades on the following dates at 4 p.m.: Wednesday, April 10; Friday, April 19; and Friday, April 26. The parades will take place on Worden Field at the Naval Academy. The public is invited to attend without charge.

Tickets are now on sale for the Naval Academy’s 47th annual International Ball to be held Saturday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall; doors will open at 7 p.m. This event is open to the public, ages 18 and up.

Midshipmen Travel to Oklahoma for Volunteer Trip
Four members of the Naval Academy Midshipmen Action Group (MAG) are spending their spring break in Tulsa, Okla. visiting elementary, middle, and high schools to teach students about the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

“Seas, Lakes & Bay: The Naval War of 1812” Exhibit Opens at the Naval Academy
The new “Seas, Lakes & Bay: The Naval War of 1812” exhibit will open April 1, in Mahan Hall at the Naval Academy. The exhibit features artifacts and artwork from the War of 1812 and is open to the public, free of charge,Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. through Nov. 3.

Naval Academy Midshipmen Deploy Experimental Buoys in Alaska
While most college students will spend their spring break in the sun on warm exotic beaches, five midshipmen (students) from the Naval Academy Polar Science Program will travel to the northernmost town in the continental United States to research changing sea ice levels. These midshipmen will be in Barrow, Ala. from March 8 – 14 to perform research that will help increase understanding and predictions of weather and climate in the Arctic region.

“A History of the Navy in 100 Objects”
“A History of the Navy in 100 Objects” premieres today on the Naval Academy website at www.usna.edu/100Objects. The series is the brainchild of Naval Academy Class of 2012 graduate Ensign Chris O’Keefe who developed it during his First Class (senior) year at the academy.

Next Naval Academy Commandant Announced
Capt. Bill Byrne, Naval Academy Class of 1987 graduate, was recently selected to be the 85th Commandant of Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy. As Commandant, Byrne will be responsible for the military and professional development of the more than 4,400 midshipmen.

Naval Academy Academic Dean and Provost Reappointed
The Naval Academy announced today that Dr. Andrew T. Phillips has been reappointed as the Academy’s Academic Dean and Provost, extending his term through July 31, 2017. Phillips has served in this position since July 2009.

Tickets for the U.S. Naval Academy’s musical performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” will go on sale to the public Tuesday, Feb. 5. Performances will be held Feb. 22, 23, and 24 and March 1, 2, and 3 in Mahan Hall.

New Commissary and Navy Exchange Groundbreaking at Naval Support Activity Annapolis
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at Naval Support Activity Annapolis Friday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. for the new commissary and Navy Exchange complex to be built across from the current facility on Kinkaid Road. Construction will begin in February with completion tentatively scheduled for mid-2014.
