RACQUETBALL - Intramurals

Rules:
1. Competition. Competition
will be held during the Spring season by companies.
2. Team. Each team shall
consist of 3 players. Each individual match will be based on the best 2
out of 3 games; a dual meet shall consist of 3 matches.
3. Starting Time. All
matches will start at 1600; therefore, the following procedures will
apply:
a. One player from each
team will play at 1600.
b. The second player from each team will play at 1645. c. The third
player from each team will play at 1730.
4. Squad. Each squad will
consist of a minimum of 5 players and maximum of 7 players.
5. Scoring. Each match will
count one point toward the score of the contest. The game is 15 points.
The best of 3 games wins the match. Following the 2nd game, the person
with the highest point total serves first in the 3rd game. Third game is
to 11 points.
6. Rules. Official United
States racquetball Association - National Racquetball Club rules govern
all competition.
7. Participants who wear
glasses must wear safety glasses during all contests. Safety glasses can
be obtained through the Medical Department of Bancroft Hall. It is
mandatory that all racquetball players wear eye guards. These guards are
available from the athletic gear issue room of Macdonough Hall, first deck
storage room.
8. Method of Handling the
Squad. It is suggested that the coach maintain a continuous ladder ranking
of the players. The better players should be allowed to use the practice
facilities first. During matches the coach shall play their players based
on their ability. There shall be no juggling of the lineup at any time.
9. Continuity of Play. Play
shall be continuous from the first serve of each game until the game is
concluded. Each rally must be played to completion of both players.
Thereafter, no delay between rallies shall be allowed except for
occasional adjustment such as wiping of glasses, etc. Play shall not be
suspended to allow a player to recover his wind. Offenders shall have a
point deducted from their score for each offense after one warning is
given. A maximum period of two minutes may be taken to facilitate play.
10. Forfeits. If a
competitor is not present and ready to play their match by 1600, 1645 and
1730 the team then forfeits the individual match. If one team forfeits two
or more individual matches, it will forfeit the entire match and be
penalized with a loss of 15 sports points.
11. Who is not eligible for
Racquetball: (A protest submitted to the Intramural Director due to this
rule not being observed will be upheld and the other team will forfeit.)
a. Any varsity squash
player who has been on the varsity roster during the current year.
b. Varsity/Club Sport athletes currently on an in-season/out-of-season
roster.
