a. Courts and Serve

(1) The captains shall toss for choice of serve or courts. The serve will go to the opposite team in the second game and another coin toss will decide serve in the third game, if needed.

(2). Each member of the team shall serve in turn and may have one try to get the ball over the net. The initial serving team will continue serving until it commits a foul or the game is completed. When the serving team commits a foul, the ball shall be given to their opponents who shall rotate one position even though the right back player has not yet served.

(3) The server shall stand with both feet back of the rear boundary line. The server may step over this line as soon as he/she serves the ball; one does not have to wait until the ball goes over the net. The ball must be entirely behind the back line when served. You may serve from anywhere behind the end line. (New Rule 1996)

(4) There are no restrictions regarding how the ball may be served. The overhand and open or closed fist serves are legal provided the ball is thrown into the air before hitting it.

(5) A ball is in play (other than serve) if it hits the net and goes into the opponent's court.

(6) A ball hit into the net may still be recovered and kept in play provided the net is not touched by any player.

(7) Before the ball leaves the server's hands, each player shall be in the serving position with each front player in front of his/her respective back player.

(8) The whistle is blown by the referee to stop each play and begin the next play. A play is considered ended with the blowing of the whistle.
