WOMEN'S 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL - Intramurals

Rules:

1. Competition. Competition will be held during the Winter between battalions.

2. Team. Each team will consist of three midshipmen. Minimum 5 - maximum 10 on each company roster. Everyone who signs up and their name appears on the company roster must show up for every competition scheduled. Rosters will be checked for attendance and anyone not attending will be considered UA from a military obligation unless on a chit or excused.

3. Rules. Intercollegiate rules will govern all competition with the following exceptions:

a. A series of three games will be played. The winner of the competition will be the team that wins two out of the three games.

b. Each game will be played until a score of 10 points is reached by either team. Each made basket will count as one point.

c. All team members will participate in one game. Any player who has not participated before either team has scored 6 points will play for the remainder of the game.

d. The game will be started by a coin toss to decide who has first possession of the ball. The team losing the first game will take first possession in game two. Game three possession will be given to the team that has the highest point total for games one and two.

e. The ball will be entered into play from behind the free throw circle by either a pass or dribble. After a successful basket or turnover, the ball will be taken back beyond the free throw circle before a try for a goal can be attempted. If an illegal goal (not taken back beyond the free throw circle) is attempted and the ball hits the rim, the ball is awarded to the other team.

f. After a basket is made the team that scored will regain possession of the ball at the top of the circle.

g. When a foul occurs, the team fouled takes the ball at the top of the foul circle. If the shooter is fouled and makes the shot his team will retain possession of the ball.

h. There will be a maximum of three fouls per player per game.

I. There will be no bonus free throws.

j. Time outs may be called at any time by the team in possession of the ball. There will be a maximum of two one minute time outs per game.

4. Referees. Midshipmen will be used to officiate each contest. There will be one official per game. If no (0) officials show up, your game WILL NOT be played. The officiating team will be penalized (-15 points) and a reschedule will try to be made. This is a new rule. The referees are to be in the appropriate striped shirts and use the whistles. Players are not to argue with the officials.

5. Fouls.

a. Hand checking or tagging is a foul! Call it!

b. Undue roughness is a Technical Foul. More than one on the same player and they are immediately banned from playing any more in that game.

c. Excessive number of intentional fouls to stop the clock is a Technical Foul. The referee may forfeit a game if unnecessary roughness continues after a warning.

d. Grabbing a player's arm or body w/o attempting to gain control of the ball is a Technical Foul.

e. Coaches of each team are responsible for controlling their teams. Unnecessary profanity or physical roughness will not be tolerated.

6. Who is not eligible to play Intramural 5/5 Basketball:

a. Any varsity/club sport athlete currently in-season/out-of-season and are on a roster for that sport.

b. A Navy JV/varsity basketball player. They must not have participated in JV/varsity for a year before they can play intramural basketball.

c. If these Midn play and are caught, coaches should turn in a formal protest and that team with the ineligible player will then forfeit.

7. Mouth guards are mandatory or your team will forfeit. Refs are to do a check for mouth guards.
