Plebe Summer 2009

 

 

Mission of the United States Naval Academy

The mission of the United States Naval Academy is to develop Midshipmen morally, mentally, and physically and imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor, and loyalty in order to graduate leaders who are dedicated to a career of Naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship, and government.

Purpose of Plebe Summer

The purpose of Plebe Summer is to lay the foundation of the Academy's four-year professional development curriculum.  At the conclusion of summer training, each Plebe class shall:

  • Be indoctrinated in the traditions of the Naval Service and the Naval Academy;

  • Understand basic military skills and the meaning behind them;

  • Appreciate the high standards and obligations inherent in service as a Midshipmen and Naval Officer;

  • Be dedicated to excellence in a competitive atmosphere the fosters leadership, teamwork, character, and a passion for "winning;"

  • Appreciate the importance of mental, moral, and physical toughness in all aspects of duty and service; and

  • Be prepared to execute the rigorous academic year routine.

Gate 1 will open at 5:30am on Wednesday, 01 July, in support of Induction Day events.

USNA will be providing free shuttle bus services on I-Day beginning at 5:45am through 10pm. 

Three buses will run continuously from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium to

Alumni Hall and the Midshipmen Store parking lot.

The Chief Diversity Officer will be hosting a Parents' Panel at 7:30pm on Induction Day.  This event is open to parents, family, and friends of the Class of 2013 and is an excellent opportunity to learn about life here at the Naval Academy as well as become familiar with the various support systems in place for the Brigade of Midshipmen.  Sitting on the evening's panel will be a current Midshipman, a recent USNA Graduate, and a veteran USNA Parent. Representatives from such support organizations as the Chaplains Center and the Midshipmen Development Center will also be available.
