Dr. Sophia Santillan is of Peruvian descent and is from Amarillo, TX.  
She earned a BS in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering from Duke University. 
After teaching high school math at both St Georges School and Phillips Exeter Academy, 
she returned to Duke to earn her MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering. 
At St Georges she served on the Multicultural Committee and became a member of the new Chapter of 
SHPE at Duke in 2007. 
She is now an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at USNA.
