Jossie was born and raised in New
Brunswick, NJ on April 6, 1988. From a Mexican descent family, she has
always been really close to extended family. For most of her life she
lived in an all female house hold with her great grandmother, mom and
two younger sisters, Jessica, 19 and Zitlalith, 12.
Jossie has been a member
of SHPE since last year, when the chapter was started in the spring
semester. Since then she has been an active member of SHPE attending
several conferences and actively participating and SHPE functions. As
the newly elected External Vice President for the Academy’s chapter,
Jossie plans to continue improvement of the club, making sure all the
members are provided with several opportunities participate in
conferences and organize events for the ECA.
As a
member of LASC, Jossie has been an active member since freshman year.
She has been a dedicated member of the club always volunteering to help
organize, coordinate and clean up. Currently the clubs Community
service chair, she has offered her services in helping the club develop
in all ways. As Chair for the Hispanic Outreach Program she is
responsible for coordinating with local schools in the Annapolis area to
have tutoring sessions with the Hispanic children enrolled. Annapolis
continues to have an increasing number of Hispanic residents. Many of
their children who attend the local schools have little to no English
speaking abilities. Hispanic Outreach allows midshipman to volunteer at
these schools. With a successful re-instatement of the program this
past fall, Hispanic Outreach is expected to continue being a source for
fulfilling community service for midshipmen as well as much need help in
developing for these Hispanic children in the Annapolis Area.
