D Qualifications
The D Qualification was revamped by the Director of Navy Sailing in 2003. This page provides the description of the D-Quals and the requirements.
There are 2 D Quals: Cruising Skipper (D-CS) and Senior Skipper (D-SS). D-CS does not carry an AQD.
Cruising Skipper: Individual qualified to command a sailing vessel in designated or coastal waters. Qualification includes night experience and demonstrated navigation knowledge and skills. This qualification is obtainable by a 1/C midshipmen participating in CSNTS.
Senior Skipper remains the old D Qual that you may be familiar with. The major difference between the two is celestial navigation and offshore experience & time. Exact details of time difference is contained in the PQS book.
