Primary Power Source - Solar Array

Physical Constraints

The solar cell array is constrained by the physical size of the exterior of the satellite.

The physical limitations for the solar cell component are

• Area of one side of satellite: 30” x 8.5” = 255 in²
• Usable area on one side of satellite: 28” x 7.5” = 210 in²

Area of solar panel:

• Two panels per side, each at 13.5” x 6.75” + 4 tabs = 92.7 in²
• Panel usable area: 13.5” x 6.5” = 87.8 in²

Panels will be made of 1/16” 6061 T-6 aluminum.

Solar Cells

Due to the physical limitations of the solar panels, multi-junction GaAs cells will be used to provide adequate power from the limited area.
