-Before the Pool and Class

For those getting your basic qualifications it is required that you do some work in a closed environment before moving to open water. This will initially consist of a minimal amount of book work and a Sat and Sun pool session at the Academy. On Saturday you will meet in a classroom from 0800 to about 1200. During this time you will go over the book work that you completed and printed out from your CD-Rom prior to the weekend. After the morning in the class room you will have a break for lunch and then meet in the pool at 1300. You will be required to have your own mask, fins and snorkel. You will dive until about 1700. Sunday depending on how much your instructor got done on Sat you will be meeting in the pool about 1300 and finish off your pool work. Contact Rob Pedersen for more information.

-Before the Quarry

Whether you are getting your basic open water qualifications or your advanced open water qualifications you will be going to the Quarry in Bainbridge PA for your open water training. This will consist of two days of diving. Anyone riding on the busses to the Quarry will meet at 0630 on Saturday morning at the 6th wing loading dock in BGMJS. (You will not be allowed to go on the bus unless you are in the correct uniform as it is an official Academy MO) The buses will be leaving no later than 0700 but you need to be on time to load the gear and get accountability. For those wishing to POV you can find directions to the quarry on their web site. Although it is recommended that you depart USNA in BGMJS, it is not mandatory. Everyone weather riding the bus or POVing must be at the quarry no later than 0930. While at the quarry you will not be diving all day and will have some down time. It is recommended that you bring something to do like homework, a book to read, a football, etc... It is also recommended that you bring extra clothes to put on as you will get cold sitting around both before and after your dive. Box lunches will be provided but often this is not enough and you might want to bring snacks. On Saturday the buses will be returning to the academy around 1800. Sunday those riding the buses will meet at the same time and place. Those POVing must be there by 0930. You will finish your dives on Sunday and be back in time for formation. Contact Rob Pedersen for more information.
