Museum Expansion and Renovation
This initiative will improve the quality
of museum facilities and holdings, and will further promote
use of the museum as a teaching and learning resource
at USNA
Initiative Description:
- Expand and renovate the museum in Preble Hall to create a state-of-the-art facility that can supplement classroom instruction and professional development through projects, course work, and multi-media technologies
- Renovate Preble Hall to achieve modern museum environmental conditions in order to ensure that the museum’s valuable and historic collection of art, artifacts, and models is maintained in an environment conducive to their long-term survival
- Plan, design, and install state of the art exhibitions that, using the museum’s collections, display and interpret the history of the U.S. Navy, the Naval Academy, and the contributions of its alumni in war and peace
- Provide a state of the art classroom/theater with multi-media and internet access, convenient to the museum exhibitions
Expected Outcome/Benefit:
- Create a modern museum venue conducive to the preservation of artifacts the Naval Academy’s heritage, and a stimulating educational and inspirational environment for midshipmen, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors
