AUGUST

NR-1 visit

The Navy’s nuclear powered deep submergence submarine NR-1 will moor at USNA. Everyone is encouraged head over and visit (tour schedules will be promulgated separately).

Features Include:

  • Displays and briefings on recent submarine missions conducted by several junior officers from Norfolk, VA. The briefings and NR-1 tours for midshipmen will be given at the Secret level.
  • ENS William Howey (‘04), currently in prototype training, will also be available to answer midshipmen questions. He is a great source of information on current life at nuclear power school and prototype.

Wednesday, 24AUG @ 1900 JO Forum

Mitscher Hall

  • Come out and talk to junior officers about submarine life. This is a valuable chance to ask candid questions and to get the “real” scoop about what it is like to be a junior officer aboard a submarine: What are the schedules like? How often do you deploy and where to? What is it like in Nuclear Power School or Prototype?

Friday, 26AUG @ 1730 NR-1 Reception and Sub Officer Social

Capt Traub’s house

(44 Upshur Rd)

  • Come out and meet the submarine officers and CPOs assigned to the yard
  • Over 60 Class of 2006 midshipmen attended the last social hosted in the spring and we hope to have even more this time.
  • Hopefully you have received invitations at home in the mail. For those newly reporting submarine officers whose address is not on the social roster but are interested in attending, please plan on coming if you can. RSVP Capt Traub, USN at x3-7300 (traub@usna.edu) or to his wife Carol Anne at (410) 267-0480. If you did not receive an invite, please forward your address to CDR Dave McDonnell (mcdonnel@usna.edu) so he can update the social roster.

Monday, 29AUG @ 1900 Submarine Career Information Brief

Alumni Hall

Submarine Officers from USNA will be on hand to provide information and to answer questions.  This is the last formal event for the Class of 2006 before service assignment desires are entered.
