What uniform should we report in?

All midshipmen should report in appropriate civilian attire (i.e. slacks or walking shorts (no denim) with a collared shirt).  See the  Leatherneck SOP for further guidance on what comprises appropriate civilian attire.  Also ensure you have eaten and have a fresh haircut when you arrive.  back to top

Can we report to Leatherneck early?

  No.  back to top

Can we wear Green Jungle boots at Leatherneck?
Yes you may.  Green or black jungle boots are authorized, as are all-leather black combat boots.  The New USMC "rough-side-out" combat boots are not authorized for midshipmen.  back to top

As a prior Marine, am I allowed to wear U.S. Marines tapes on my utilities?
No and yes.  If you are a prior enlisted Marine and have serviceable woodland utilities with the Marine Corps emblem on the pocket, they may be worn in the field only, and they will have US Navy nametapes on them.  All midshipmen will have at least 1 set of utilities without the Marine Corps emblem for wear in garrison.   back to top

Can I wear my MARPAT uniforms that were issued to me?
No, MARPAT utilities are not authorized for midshipmen, even if they were issued them as enlisted Marines.  back to top

Am I required to wear Navy Service Tapes on my utilities.

Yes.  back to top

Who do I submit chits to if I am looking to be excused from training during Leatherneck?
Submit chits to your Leatherneck Platoon Commander.  He will get them approved/disapproved through the Company chain of command and let you know the results.  back to top

If we have some of our own 782 gear is it okay if we use it during Leatherneck?
No, you will use the gear issued to you at TBS.  back to top

Do we need to submit a special request to POV down to Quantico for Leatherneck?

No special request or chit is required. In fact you are encouraged to carpool/POV down there.  Keep in mind that parking is limited to the parade deck area.

Leatherneck staff is currently working on the acquisition of parking stickers.  back to top

How many sets of uniforms do I need?
You will need 4 serviceable sets of woodland utilities with U.S. Navy nametapes.  back to top

How many sets of boots do I need and how effective are the issued Bates?
You will need at least 2 pairs of boots. The Bates boots that you were issued at the Naval Academy have some shortfalls, specifically poor ankle support and a sole that makes it difficult to climb a rope. However, these boots can serve a purpose--you would just have to apply some judgment in deciding for which evolutions you will wear them. For some people the poor ankle support and sole will not be an issue. For others, if nothing else, the Bates issued boots could serve as a clean, dry, polished pair of boots that you are able to put on to go to the classroom after having trashed another pair of boots at PT.  back to top

What is the policy concerning Underarmor?
Midshipmen may wear olive green Underarmor shirts as long as the manner of wear makes them indistinguishable from the standard green T-shirt. For example, a green crew-neck Underarmor shirt may be worn underneath a camouflage utility jacket. It may not be worn for PT without a blouse, since the Underarmor logo on the chest will not be uniform with the standard green T-shirt. Turtleneck Underarmor may not be worn at any time.  back to top
