How do I become a musician in the Navy? All applicants for the Navy Music Program should demonstrate the ability to read band literature of an intermediate or advanced level, perform at a mature musical level, and be well versed in different styles (jazz, classical, rock, latin, etc.). Your first step is to contact your local Navy Recruiter. Your Recruiter can answer any general questions about the Navy, and set up an audition at the closest audition site. If your Recruiter has a question about the MU program, feel free to have him call the Program Manager's Office at 1-800-962-1425 or 1-901-874-4316. At the audition, you will fill out an application and, of course, perform. After the audition, the results are faxed to the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee, where your audition is evaluated. If you are found to be musically qualified, you are guaranteed assignment to the Navy School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia. Upon completion of MU "A" School, you will be designated "Navy Musician." For more information go to the Navy Music Program website.
