Class Benjamin A. Bokor, USN
Clarinetist/Saxophonist, Naval Academy Band
Musician First Class Benjamin Bokor grew up in Downers Grove, Illinois. He graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University, studying clarinet with Leslie Grimm. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland where he studies jazz with Chris Vadala.
While at Northwestern, MU1 Bokor spent summers playing in the All-American College Band at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris. After graduating, he spent three years as a high school band director in New Jersey and Chicago. In 2004, he won third place at the North American Saxophone Alliance’s jazz saxophone competition.
Prior to joining the band, MU1 Bokor was a member of the U.S. Army Field Band for five years. There he performed on clarinet and saxophone with the concert band, and was a featured jazz soloist and clinician.
In 2008, MU1 Bokor auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band, where he reported for duty following Veterans’ training at Great Lakes. He currently performs as a clarinetist with the concert band, and as a saxophonist in the marching band, “Next Wave” jazz ensemble, and ceremonial units. As a collateral duty, MU1 Bokor serves as a Command Fitness Leader Assistant, and Librarian's Assistant.
MU1 Bokor has been awarded the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Rifleman Sharpshooter Ribbon, and the Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon.
