First Class Petty Officer Rory C. Cherry, USN
Bassist, Naval Academy Band

MU1 Rory Cherry is a native of Dothan, Alabama. In 1995, Petty Officer Cherry graduated from Dothan High School where he was a trombone instrumentalist with the marching band and electric bassist with the jazz band. Upon graduation from high school, Petty Officer Cherry attended Wallace Community College in Dothan where he performed as bassist with the big band. From 1995 to 2000, MU1 Cherry played professionally with various top 40/Contemporary groups including the cover band All Nite Dwight.

MU1 Cherry joined the U.S. Navy in July 2000. After completion of musician "A" school, MU1 Cherry reported to Navy Band New Orleans (NOLA) for duty with the top 40 band "Big Easy." After detaching from Navy Band NOLA, Petty Officer Cherry reported for duty in Norfolk, Virginia with the ATLANTIC Fleet Band. While in Norfolk, MU1 Cherry was bassist with the contemporary group "4 Star Edition." MU1 Cherry reported to the Naval Academy Band in January 2006 and currently performs with the Navy's premiere contemporary music ensemble, "Electric Brigade."

Petty Officer Cherry's military awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal.

Petty Officer Cherry is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Applied Computer Science from Troy University.
