Senior Chief Petty Officer Daniel J. Drew, USN
Trombonist, Naval Academy Band

Senior Chief Daniel J. Drew hails from Emmetsburg, Iowa, and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1981. After graduation he attended the University of Iowa where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Performance degree in 1986.

In 1987 Senior Chief Drew enlisted in the Navy and reported to the School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia. Upon completion of training, he was assigned to Navy Band New Orleans where he performed as bass trombonist in the ceremonial and show bands. In addition to his playing duties, he served as vocalist, sound technician, and arranger. In 1990 he auditioned and was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy Band as trombone instrumentalist, and reported for duty in March of that year. Since his arrival in Annapolis, Senior Chief Drew has filled many roles. He has performed with the wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, combos, ceremonial and marching units and held the position of Chief Arranger from 2000 to 2003. He is currently the band's Operations Coordinator as well as unit leader and musical director of the Next Wave jazz ensemble, and the Superintendent's Combo.

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (five awards), the National Defense Service Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation (two awards).
