Petty Officer James A. Fowler, USN
Bassist, Naval Academy Band
Chief Musician James Fowler is a native of Ponca City, Oklahoma. He earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma City University in 1990 and a Master
of Music Education degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1994.
Chief Fowler enlisted in the U.S. Navy and reported to the U.S. Naval
Academy Band in 2000. During Navy Recruit Training, he was awarded the
Military Order of World Wars. Since Recruit Training, he has qualified
as an Expert Marksman on both rifle and pistol for the Navy. Chief Fowler
performs as a member of the prestigious Superintendent's Combo, Next Wave,
and is Principal String Bassist with the Wind Ensemble. He has performed
with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra and the Delta Queen Steamboat
Company, and was on the faculties of Northern Oklahoma College and Southern
Nazarene University prior to entering the Navy.
Chief Fowler has many hobbies including woodworking, chess, and sports.
He is also an active member of his church, performing with the Worship
Ministry.
