Petty Officer James A. Fowler, USN
Chief Musician James Fowler is a native of Ponca City, Oklahoma. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma City University in 1990 and a master’s degree in music education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1994. In 2000, MUC Fowler auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band. Following recruit training at RTC, Great Lakes, he reported for duty as string bassist with the concert band, “Next Wave” jazz ensemble, and Superintendent’s Combo. He also performs on sousaphone in the marching band. MUC Fowler served as the LPO of the concert band, and currently holds the positions of Superintendent’s Combo unit leader, Principal String Bassist, Fiscal Manager, Chief-in-Charge CPO Think Tank, and USNA Urinalysis Program Coordinator. MUC Fowler has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal (3 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Expert Rifleman Medal, and the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal.
