Class Petty Officer Jessica L. Hatfield, USN
Musician First Class Jessica Hatfield, originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1998. In 2002, MU1 Hatfield earned her bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. While at Butler she performed with the Indianapolis Opera Company, Butler Opera Chorus, Jordan Jazz, and studied voice with Sharon Searles and Claudia Waite. In June 2002 she attended the Centre Lyrique in Pourrires, France, where she worked with Uel Deane, Robin Bowman, and John Burrows. MU1 Hatfield joined the Navy in October of 2004. After completion of Musician “A” school she reported to the SEVENTH Fleet Band in Yokosuka, Japan, where she was lead vocalist for the show band “Far East Edition” and contemporary entertainment ensemble “Orient Express.” While assigned to SEVENTH Fleet, MU1 Hatfield embarked on the flagship USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19) and performed extensively throughout the band’s area of responsibility including Korea, Republic of the Philippines, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Malaysia, Guam, Indonesia, and Australia. She was twice a featured soloist with the Japanese Navy’s Premier Military Band (JMSDF Band, Tokyo), and through her ceremonial performances earned the nickname “Voice of the SEVENTH Fleet.” Petty Officer Hatfield’s Military Awards include the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Sea Service Deployment (2 awards), Navy and Marine Overseas Service Ribbon (2 awards), and Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon.
