Class Petty Officer Matthew H. Manturuk, USN
Musician First Class Matthew Manturuk is a native of Troy, Michigan. Petty Officer Manturuk received a Bachelor of Music (Percussion Performance) and Music Education from Eastern Michigan University (Ypsilanti, MI) and a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston, MA). As a student in Michigan and Massachusetts, Petty Officer Manturuk also performed with ensembles such as the Lansing and Macomb Symphony Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and Brockton Symphony Orchestra. Since 1991, Petty Officer Manturuk has been an active percussion arranger and instructor for various high schools and universities throughout the world, including: the Pride of Soka Drum and Bugle Corps from Soka University (Tokyo, Japan), Etiwanda High School (California), Lassiter High School (Georgia), and Milford High School (Michigan), to name a few. In 1997, Petty Officer Manturuk was appointed Director of Bands at North Branch High School in North Branch, MI, and in 1998 he entered the U.S. Army, serving over three years with the Army Ground Forces Band in Atlanta, Georgia. While in Atlanta, Petty Officer Manturuk joined the faculty of Kennesaw State University, as Artist in Residence; there he taught the percussion methods course and percussion private lessons. In 2001, Petty Officer Manturuk auditioned for and was selected by the U.S. Naval Academy Band to join their percussion section. MU1 Manturuk's military
awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army
