Chief Musician Matthew H. Manturuk, USN
Percussionist, Naval Academy Band

MUC Matthew Manturuk

Chief Musician Matthew Manturuk is a native of Troy, Michigan. He received a Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance and music education from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Music degree in percussion performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. His teachers have included Sam Tundo, Norman Fickett, Dr. Whitney Prince, and Frank Epstein.

Prior to his enlistment, MUC Manturuk performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Macomb Symphony Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, and Brockton Symphony Orchestra. He was also a very active educator and percussion arranger for high schools and universities throughout the United States and Japan. In 1997, MUC Manturuk was appointed Director of Bands at North Branch High School in North Branch, MI, where he taught marching band, concert band, jazz band and music theory. In 2001, he joined the faculty of Kennesaw State University, as Artist in Residence, where he taught the percussion methods course and percussion private lessons.

In 1998, MUC Manturuk entered the U.S. Army, serving over three years as percussion instrumentalist with the Army Ground Forces Band in Atlanta, Georgia. There he performed with the concert band, marching band, ceremonial units, and Dixieland band.

In 2002, MUC Manturuk auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band. He reported for duty as percussionist with the concert band, marching band, and ceremonial units. His collateral duties are Operations Coordinator and Marching Percussion Section Leader.

MUC Manturuk has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal (2 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.
