Petty Officer Todd C. Nix , USN
Chief Musician Todd C. Nix is a native of Grant's Pass, Oregon and a 1988 graduate of Grants Pass High School. He received his Bachelor degree from the University of Oregon, where he also performed frequently with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra and Eugene Opera Company. Chief Nix completed his Master of Music degree in Tuba Performance at the Indiana University School of Music, where he was a graduate assistant to Daniel Perantoni, and Adjunct Professor of Music at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. At Indiana University, he performed under the direction of Kurt Masur and also recorded Mahler's Third Symphony. His principal teachers include Harvey Phillips, Daniel Perantoni, Richard Frazier, and Floyd Cooley. He has given recitals and masterclasses at the University of Oregon and the University of Tennessee and is active as a clinician. He has been recognized nationally for his ensemble work at both the Fischoff National Chamber Music Festival and the NY Brass Conference, and was awarded second place in the Mock Orchestral Audition Competition held at the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference in 1995. In 1997 Chief Nix auditioned for and was accepted as tubist with the United States Naval Academy Band. He performs with a variety of groups including the concert band, marching band, tuba/euphonium quartet as well as a number of chamber music ensembles. However, his contributions to the organization are not limited to his musical abilities, he is the Chief in Charge of Transportation and an active member of the band's Moral, Welfare and Recreation Committee being a star player on the MU-Sox, the band's softball team. MUC Nix wears the Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Navy Expert Pistol Marksman's Medal.
